What Makes Fit Learning Unique?

Fit Learning provides an evidence-based approach to academic instruction. We have 25 years of published research supporting gains made by students in our program. Our learners see an average of 1 academic year’s worth of progress in 40 hours of instruction.

Let’s look at some of the key components of the Fit Learning approach -

1. We begin with a comprehensive academic assessment. With a foundation in behavior analysis, we look at an academic subject as a complex skill. Our assessment allows us to assess both accuracy and fluency (accuracy + speed, or ease of producing the skill) of all of the foundational skills you need to be successful in that skill. For example, in reading, we assess reading fluency as a whole but also assess the components you need to be a successful reader (such as visual processing, letter names, letter sounds, vowel rules, etc.). This allows us to be able to pinpoint exactly why your learner struggles in a given area.

2. Based on the information identified in our comprehensive Fit assessment, every learner has customized programming based on their specific needs. We strategically select programs that allow a learner to be challenged but not overwhelmed or frustrated. We also select programs from our curriculum in an efficient manner - not targeting the same skill over and over but rather selecting programs where we will see generative growth.

3. Our data & measurement system are critical components of Fit Learning. We use what’s called precision teaching. This is a precise measurement system that allows us to track growth in a learner’s fluency. We take data on everything we do in a session (from learner performance to session productivity). By taking and analyzing this data in real time, we are able to make adjustments in the session to best support the learner. So, if they are exceeding their goals, we can progress to the next program in that session. Similarly, if they are not progressing, our learning coaches are equipped with interventions to help the learner see success. We then document these to decide if the need to be a standard protocol or if the program should be modified.

4. The Fit Learning values set Fit apart from other academic organizations. A very unique component of the Fit model is the core belief that the learner is always right. We are here to serve our students. We know that if a learner is not seeing success, we as adults need to change our behavior. This is a subtle thing we do throughout our practice but it is something that is SO impactful for our students. With our roots in behavior analysis, we are able to work on facilitating the learning behaviors we want to see using principles of reinforcement.

5. The Fit Learning results speak for themselves. Learners make an average of a year’s worth of growth in 40 hours of instruction regardless of age or disability. You can see the data on your average return on investment here
