What is Fit Logic?

One of our most asked questions at Fit Learning is “What is Fit Logic?”. This one-of-a-kind program targets the foundational skills that allow learners to read with comprehension, speak with meaning, listen with understanding, and write with expression. Using evidence-based behavioral science, our founders have pinpointed the skills necessary for comprehension and executive functioning.

Many kids are able to generalize and apply the “soft skills” they need to be successful students without explicit instruction. These skills include describing, instruction following, sequencing (and generalizing sequencing concepts), and more. However, not all learners naturally pick up on these concepts. Often learners who struggle with these skills have trouble generalizing, show overall concerns as a student, struggle to communicate and carry on a conversation, or have difficulty with social skills. These learners often present with pervasive learning challenges.

Let’s look at an example. Concepts such as beginning, middle, and end, though commonly incorporated in education, are not always explicitly taught and are rather assumed skill sets. Thus, learners may not have mastery of these concepts. As a result, a learner may struggle to segment a word if they don’t grasp the beginning, middle, and ending sounds.

Our Fit directors have taken a no-stone-left-unturned approach to solve this problem. Using Relational Frame Theory, we found that we are able to explicitly teach these executive functioning and communication skills that are critical for academic success.

If you were to observe a Fit Logic session, you’d see learners building fluency in a unique array of skills! Based on the needs identified in a learner’s comprehensive assessment, you would observe explicit instruction in instructional control, efficiently identifying items, classifying, relating, describing, comparing/contrasting, sequencing, listening comprehension, and problem-solving. Of course, you’d observe these targets while seeing a learner who is engaged and building self-confidence as they are contacting success in these skills. As a result, our learners are seeing gains not only in their logic skills, but also in reading fluency, reading comprehension, math word problems, and more!
