Strategies for Successful Math Instruction

Quality Math Tutoring at Fit Learning

Math can be an aversive topic to many. It is a difficult skill to master and requires lots of practice! At Fit, we believe that every child CAN learn math. When considering math support for your child, here are some things to look for:

Quality math instruction begins with the mastery of concepts and procedural skills. This includes numeration and computation skills (such as number reading and writing, place value, order of operations, and math facts). As learners build fluency in these foundational skills, they can then apply them to more complex computation skills.

When teaching concepts and procedures, it is important to provide learners with strategies for success. For example, at Fit, we often teach skip counting to help with multiplication and division facts.

Another key component of quality math instruction is a multi-sensory approach. Like our other programs, incorporating multi-sensory opportunities to learn, improves visual and auditory processing speed, working memory, executive functioning, confidence, and perseverance.

Our final component of quality math instruction is frequent and efficient feedback. This prevents learners from making systemic errors while promoting opportunities for correct responses.

At Fit Learning, we incorporate all of these strategies & MORE! Our evidence-based approach yields an average of 1-2 grade levels of growth after just 40 hours of instruction!
